Capoeira groups learn techniques of an Afro-Brazilian martial art. the practice combines dance, acrobatics, and music it was developed by african slaves at the beginning of the 16th century. skills focus on fighting when outnumbered or at a disadvantage. movements emphasize the lower body to kick, leg sweeps for takedowns with swirling upper body motion in defense against attackers. for more info: History of capoeira

Chorinho (or choro) is Brasil’s national folk music. Neighborhood bands play in parks, bars & at soccer games! Choro (lament) or chorinho (“little cry” or “little lament”), is acoustic music originating in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Guitars, ukulele, kettle drum, accordion, flute, piccolo & hand-held percussion are instruments for typical Choros Band. Despite its name, (Choros or lament) the music is often fast & happy. Characterized by improvisation & subtle modulation it’s full of syncopation. Those who play choros music are known as chorões & festivals are regularly held to demonstrate the most talented Chorinho Bands.
